According to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PwC US’ IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report, in 2016 spend on digital ads has surprassed spend on television ads. In 2016, Mobile ad revenue was $36.6 billion and digital video reached $9.1 billion.

Here are some more highlights from the report:

  • Digital video advertising grew 53% year-over-year rise from $5.9 billion in 2015
  • On mobile devices, video revenue grew by 145% year-over-year—to $4.2 billion
  • Social media advertising generated $16.3 billion in 2016
  • Search revenues reached nearly $35 billio.

David Silverman, partner, PwC US, says, “Mobile, social, video, and programmatic trends combine to redefine the digital landscape, providing unprecedented access for advertisers to reach consumers. Digital audio, generating $1.1 billion in 2016 speaks to the continued evolution of new formats that enable marketers to find audiences at home, behind their desks, or wherever they are”.
